Faraday's Laws Of Electrolysis
Michael Faraday in 1834 put forward two laws of electrolysis. His two laws can be states as:-
Statements of the laws
Faraday's 1st Law of Electrolysis
This law states that,"The amount of substance deposited or liberated at respective electrode is directly proportional to the amount of charge passed through electrolytic solution."
Faraday's 2nd Law of Electrolysis It states that,"If same amount of electric charge is passed through different electrolyte connected in series, amount of substance deposited or liberated at respective electrode is directly proportional to their respective chemical equivalent,"
|
If m1,m2 and m3 be amount of hydrogen liberated, amount of copper deposited and amount of silver deposited & E1,E2 and E3 be their respective chemical equivalents, then |
|
|
m1/E1=m2/E2=m3/E3
this is Faraday's second law of electrolysis.
